Do you want to:

  •  Respond to criticism of your research more quickly and effectively?

Goals of this compact 2-­day workshop
You will learn how to:
  • Focus your scientific message and transmit it efficiently and effectively
  • Understand more clearly, “What do my scientific audiences / readers want?” and how to
  • satisfy that
  • Become more comfortable in dealing with the controversies within your field
Please note, this is NOT a course on English grammar, or generic English writing style! This
is a course on communicating research effectively.


Methods
  • Short theoretical inputs
  • “Toolbox” of efficient practical methods and guidelines
  • Individual and group exercises

Throughout the course, participants will use their own research topics and situations for all exercises



About the lecturer



 
Dr. Sarah Shephard
Dr. sc. nat. ETH, biochemist; over 20 years of research experience in toxicology & pharmacology (cancer research & photochemistry). Research stints in Canada, Switzerland and Japan. During this period also freelance editor of scientific manuscripts and semiprofessional singer in musicals, variété, solo and with own vocal ensemble. In 2001 completed a 3-year postgraduate programme in Organisational Development & Management. Since 2000, coach and trainer in communication & leadership in science, providing workshops in these themes at universities throughout Switzerland and abroad, and individual coaching from my practice in Zurich. In addition, part-time position as faculty developer and didactic expert at ETH Zurich.
