Functional Materials

Functional Materials

organisation: Z. Salman, E. Morenzoni, C. Niedermayer

duration: 1.0 day

location: WHGA/001

scope:

Functional materials cover a broad range of materials with physical and chemical properties sensitive to a change in the environment such as temperature, pressure, magnetic field, electric field, etc. Interdisciplinary research in the field of these materials has been gaining momentum in recent years. The interest is driven by both, their diverse fundamental properties as well as their potential future application in devices. The variety of properties exhibited by functional materials require in many cases the application of various techniques to investigate them, bringing researcher with different expertise together. At the same time, the increasing complexity of such materials is promoting collaborations between chemists, physicists and materials scientists.

This workshop aims at providing an overview on current research in the field of functional materials. It will also provide a platform for showcasing the complementarity of techniques using muons, neutrons and X-rays in this fast developing field of research.
