Multiple Order Parameter Systems

Multiple Order Parameter Systems

detailed program

organisation: M. Kenzelmann, C. Niedermayer, H. Luetkens, C. Rüegg

duration: 1.0 days

location: WBGB/019

scope:

The emergence of novel behaviour driven by competing interactions is a prominent and topical theme in condensed matter research. A cornucopia of systems lie within this realm. These include highly correlated insulators such as magnetically driven ferroelectrics, and heavy-fermions, systems with orbital-ordering and the high temperature superconductors, including the pnictides. The proximity of such materials to quantum critical points makes them highly susceptible to perturbations, encouraging emergent ground states with multiple, coupled orders of distinct nature. The aim of the workshop is to bring together the three different user communities which employ photon, neutron and muon probes respectively to reveal complementary aspects of the remarkable systems that exhibit multiple order parameters.
