Description

The Project 8 collaboration has recently demonstrated the novel technique of Cyclotron Radiation Emission Spectroscopy (CRES) and aims to perform a high precision measurement of the beta decay spectrum of tritium around the endpoint region (Q = 18.6 keV) to investigate the anti-electron neutrino mass scale. I will present first measurements using 83mKr and the phased program towards ameasurement using atomic tritium which has mass sensitivity potentially below 50meV/c2. In addition I will discuss the possibility to extend CRES into the high energy range (MeV) and its possible application to a sensitive search for chirality-flipping interactions in the beta decay spectrum of 6He (Q = 3.5MeV).
