Description

The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility - Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS) is a facility upgrade bringing its scientific users a first-of-a-kind, low-emittance, high-energy synchrotron light source and new, cutting-edge beamlines.
On December 2018, after 30 years of operation, the beam stopped for a 12 month shutdown to dismantle the storage ring and install a new and revolutionary X-ray source. On December 2019, the first beam was stored and accumulated in the storage ring, allowing the vacuum conditioning and tuning to be started. Beam was delivered to the beamlines in March 2020 for commissioning, and on 25 August, the user programme was restarted with beam parameters very close to nominal values.
This seminar will first present the implementation of the new storage ring and the associated preparatory work that allowed the constrained planning to be achieved. Beam commissioning will then be reviewed. Finally, restart of operation will be presented and the current performance will be given. It will highlight the manner in which we achieved this and the lessons learned.
