CATCH proudly announces the next Open Science Workshop 9-13 May 2022 to discuss atmospheric chemistry research, with a focus on natural processes specific to cold regions of the Earth.  

The workshop hosted invited talks recordings of which you may still download from this webpage. Follow the session links below for a detailed list of available talks. You also find links to the Question & Answer discussions that took place along with the talks.

Ocean-ice-snow-atmosphere fluxes: Round the world session - focus on trace gas flux above snow, (sea)ice & ocean

Presentation of the current approaches to quantify trace gas and aerosol fluxes above ocean, ice and snow surfaces. Discussion of the strategies to overcome limitations/uncertainties in measurement strategies and how to use this flux information within models.

In order to help with preparation of the invited talks and to structure the workshop discussions, some relevant science questions are listed below for guidance:

How is flux defined in the study presented?
What are the advantages, limitations and common pitfalls of the selected method to measure flux?
uncertainties
temporal resolution
foot print; what area are the observations representative of?
time scale problem: turbulent mixing time vs. chemical lifetime
Which new instrumental techniques may exist to improve direct gas/aerosol flux estimates?
Which indirect methods exist to estimate gas/aerosol flux (potentially new to this community)?
How are gas/aerosol fluxes parameterised? How well constrained are the model parameters and what is their uncertainty? Are these parameterisations being used in existing regional/global models? If not, why?
