Notes from the discussion:
Work package "photoinjector improvements":
- X-band specifications resulting from the selected injector layout plays a key role (Sven)
- The jitter tolerances must be kept in mind when deciding on frequency bands in the injector (S-band or C-band) (Qiao)
- In the FEL BD group we are currently lacking a person for gun/injector simulations... (Sven)
Work package: "extraction line and 6 GeV test stand":
- Currently the most pressing problem is not the funding of the extraction line but the lack of installation time (also competition with SLS dark time)
Work package: "Undulator development":
- We must make sure that Porthos will be significantly different from Aramis. If high photon energy and polarization is all we want, we can do that with Aramis by upgrading RF stations in the main linac and adding a SCAPE afterburner to the undulator line, for a price tag of 10 MCHF rather than 140 MCHF. (Sven)
- With helical undulators in the crossed scheme we can achieve up to 85% polarization. It would be interesting to know how many experiments are happy with this degree of polarization, and which really need more... (Sven).
- A SCAPE prototype undulator could first be tested as an afterburner in Aramis (Sven & Marco).
- The most elegant and smartest solution, from a technical point of view, would be the helical SCU. It's extremely simple and compact. We can deal with other polarizations with an afterburner... (Marco)
