Description

Thermalization is one of the key phenomena that shape our understanding of quantum dynamics. Typically, the so-called Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis shapes our understanding of thermalization. Recently, there interesting scenarios have emerged where thermalization is delayed (and sometimes can be completely avoided) in translationally invariant and physically relevant quantum Hamiltonians. In this talk, we outline the occurrence of quantum scars in lattice gauge theories due to the phenomenon of order-by-disorder in Hilbert space. As we show, for some physically relevant models, the existence of exponentially (in the system size) many such anomalous states can be proved.
