Construction and installation plan

minutes 28.8.203 meeting

Detector assembly

  • Bus bars are ready on beam-pipe are ready. One more check requested: see if all the detector side pins fit.
  • BOSSL ring and board (with cables) preferably installed before SciFi cooling block.
  • Vertex detector helium ducts do not need to be installed before the SciFi ring, need to practice once at the Mockup
  • We can install the ducts, BOSSL ring, & SciFi cooling block on a work bench, and install the assembly on the cage. Checked with AH if that is still OK for alignment.
  • When we are installing first vertex & SciFi hardware, also have outer pixel hardware (e.g. end rings) around to practice and find conflicts.
  • The HYDRA should not be one piece. Check with Matt.
  • The outer pixel and Tile end-ring fit over the SciFi cooling block. It is not clear yet whether this is the case with all the uTP bundles in place. Possible conflict in the installation sequence.
  • SciFi needs to be lowered slowly while handling the cables
  • Vertex detector needs protection during SciFi installation.
  • when does the HYDRA goes into position? We can not cover the bus bars before the SciFi detector is installed. Possible conflict in the installation sequence.
  • At some point the location of the uTP bundles need to be assigned (one of the 3 channels)

Power, end-wheel, flanges

  • Do we have a final uTP bundle length now? LV and FW measured once 116 cm to the reference point https://elog.psi.ch/elogs/Pixel/34, TR claims 140cm total length is fine. Do we have enough slack then?
  • Need uTP support structure on the beam pipe
  • Power crate:
    • Need to do a cooling test once SM does a full run of the cooling water
    • Need to fix the LV cable lengths
    • Need to make an LDO board (FW)
  • We need final HV crate

Helium ducts and SciFi cooling lines

  • Current (small) helium duct design with interfaces has ~20 mBar pressure drop. Probably acceptable. New baseline. Needs to be confirmed with simulation and need to add the pressure drops of the HYDRA/End-ring and detector
  • With 3.8 mm ID the pipe pressure drop is 0.42 Bar, and with 5 mm ID, this number because 0.12 Bar. This has to be compared to the Cooling ring pressure drop of 0.35 Bar
    • 3.8 mm is too thin
    • 5 mm ID works, but might be overkill
  • Need one more iteration with a thinner section along the beam pipe (thinner walls?) and run the simulation.
  • We will meet in HD in ~weeks for a cabling testing with 5 & 6 mm OD pipes, new Hedlium ducts, and uTP cables.
  • DS there is no need for optimized pipe diameter. 6mm OD is fine.
  • We need to prevent the helium flow from the HYDRA going under SciFi detector.
  • We need to protect SciFi cooling structure from the outer pixel helium flow.

Staging area

  • The stating cage has M6 holes for mounting tools. It is up to the sub detectors to make there assembly tools
  • SciFi and Tile detectors need Chiller for staging area / detector tests. In principle a SMC chiller may become available if we crane the Platform 2 helium chiller back and forth, but this dance is heavely disfavored. We prefer a Huber chiller with the same interface. How much does the cheapest Huber chiller with the same interface cost?
  • We could order this chiller together with the Helium system unistat.
  • Helium piping needs to be improved.

SSW

  • Priority after beam-pipe (with cooling block and Tile cooling distribution ring) is ready
  • Assembly and cooling test in HD with a full SSW planned end of September.
  • Plan a Infrastructure installation week at PSI (with HD engineers) , eying somewhere in November. Beam pipe can be installed earlier.

Staging area

  • MT is very much occupied with Area work
  • Need to fix and install piping electronic cooling piping (with valves at the right places foreseen)

Flange

  • Need to communicate the desired Demaco interface to MT
