Workshop on Correlated Disorder

Europe/Zurich
Tom Fennell (PSI - Paul Scherrer Institut)
Description

The purpose of the workshop is to discuss new physics and functionalities in systems with correlated disorder or structural frustration such as charge ices, or electronic or magnetic properties where disorder and/or frustration are important. We aim to develop interdisciplinary communication and collaborations among internationally leading experts and to encourage young researchers to contribute to the field.

Invited speakers:

Monique Body, Institut des Molécules et Matériaux du Mans (IMMM), Le Mans Université

Peter Derlet, Laboratory for Theoretical and Computional Physics, PSI

Ellen Fogh, Institut of Physics, EPFL

Andrew Goodwin, Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Oxford

Joe Paddison, Correlated Electron Materials group, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Ella Schmidt, Crystallography and Geomaterials, Unversität Bremen

Henrik Schou Røsing, Niels Bohr Institut

Virginie Simonet, Laboratoire Néel, CNRS Grenoble

Brandon Wood, Functional and Emerging Materials group, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Tim Ziman, Institut Laue Langeving

Notes:

Invitation letters can be provided on request. Please contact the organisers at correlated_disorder@psi.ch

The workshop will be held at the Herzberg near Aarau, about 1 hour from both Zürich and PSI:

https://www.herzberg.org

Local participants with on-site accommodation are expected to arrive on 27th February around 09:00 (dinner included in full board registration fees) and to depart on 28th February around 17:00. Participants travelling from further afield can arrive/depart on the 26th / 29th.

How to get there?
A special bus will depart at 8:30 from Aarau main station (Bahnhof) towards Herzberg on 27th February. The dinner on 27th February is included in the full board registration for participants with on-site accommodation. For participants who would travel outside these time windows, shuttles between the Herzberg and the closest bus stop (Staffelegg, Passhöhe) can be organised on request.

A special bus will depart at 17:00 from Herzberg towards Aarau main station (Bahnhof) on 28th February.

Should you have any questions, please contact the organisers at

correlated_disorder@psi.ch

A map of the on-site directions is available (link to 'directions.pdf' below). For more information about bus and train connections in Switzerland, please consult https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html
