Input from Gabriel Aeppli (before the meeting):
Thanx for this exposition. As you know, I will not be able to attend this afternoon, so will add the following points now (am sure more will come to mind later
- Should we reconfigure, as suggested by the last PSAC, Aramis in light of Porthos? Very specifically, should the physics part of Cristallina be moved to Porthos? What about Bernina - thus making way for a bio/chem takeover of Aramis?
- what about scandium (with its freakishly narrow nuclear resonance) at ca 12 keV? See recent Nature paper. Is this is a tiny niche or something more important? More generally - what is the future fir exploitation of nuclear resonances?
- XFELO with all four electron pulses/10 msec cycle which we will get with Porthos upgrade
- You mention entangled photons in intro & this needs to be elaborated upon in discussions -if u entangle visible & x-ray photons u could do damage-free experiments.
- To improve pump/probe timing should we be using electron beam(s) for THz-UV pumping (others are going this way), or are there other more clever things to do?
Sven:
If you want 1-10 keV, the undulator period should be around 30 mm. Then you'll need 40 m for saturation, for two-color and self-seeding 80 m, we have that.
Three levels of seeding:
- Self seeding (straight-forward)
- External seeding with Athos
- External seeding with a separate facility
Hans: should we show the international landscape.
We should also summarize where we are.
Thomas presentation "SwissFEL Status" (based on FLS talk)
- SwissFEL accelerator summary
- Lessons from Athos
- Short / special modes (nonlinear compression, 10 pC, fresh-slice high-power...)
- HERO and EEHG: status
Sven presentation "visions for Porthos":
- Minimum bandwidth: with self-seeding option (100 fs)
- Short pulses down to 1 fs, incl. synchronization, high-power, mode purity...
- EEHG and HHG (4 keV, external seeded)
There are minutes attached to this event.
Show them.
