Description

Aim of school:

To provide detailed knowledge and hands-on experience about the field of muon spectroscopy.

Target audience:

This school is aimed at PhD students and post-doctoral researchers. No previous knowledge of muon spectroscopy is necessary.

Program overview:

The school will introduce the muon spectroscopy technique and then focus on in-depth discussion of its application to different science areas. At the beginning of the school there will be poster sessions, where each participant can introduce their current research projects and how they relate to muon spectroscopy. During the school there will be workshops teaching practical knowledge about performing muon spectroscopy research. Directly after the school, the students have the possibility to join a facility tour of the Swiss Muon Source at PSI.

Some of the main topics covered are:

  • Magnetic materials
  • Superconductors
  • Semiconductors
  • Energy materials
  • Muon site determination & DFT
  • Elemental analysis
  • Studies of thin films and interfaces
  • Muon spectroscopy under extreme conditions

Registration:

Kindly note that this school is limited to 40 participants. Applications to participate can be submitted between July and September 2025. In early October, accepted applicants will be informed and asked to complete the full registration.

The registration fee for the school is CHF 300.--  and includes accommodation in a shared double room, meals and spa usage.
