DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Awadhesh Narayan (Indian Institute of Science\, Beng
aluru)\n\nNon-Hermitian systems have attracted significant attention in th
e past few years. They feature a number of unique properties such as excep
tional points and the skin effect. In this talk\, I will first present a f
ramework to characterize exceptional points using Newton polygons and trop
ical geometry [1\,2]. I will show simple examples to illustrate this frame
work. In the second part\, I will present our recent results on the dynami
cal interplay between the non-Hermitian skin effect and topological edge s
tates [3]. Using the Lindbladian approach\, I will illustrate how open qua
ntum systems are impacted by the combined presence of spectral and band to
 pologies.\n[1] R. Jaiswal\, A. Banerjee\, and A. Narayan\, New J. Phys. 25
