Description

The ATLAS experiment is planning an upgrade of its Trigger and Data Acquisition system for the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) era. To address the challenge of high pile-up conditions at the HL-LHC, track and vertex reconstruction are key tools. In the Event Filter (EF), a combination of regional tracking at 1 MHz and full-scan tracking at 150 kHz will be used to reduce the detector readout to the target rate of 10 kHz. The EF Tracking system will allow for online track reconstruction for the trigger using the new full silicon Inner Tracker. While the system is still under design, I will present an overview of the Event Filter Tracking system and the different options currently being considered for track reconstruction and potentially offloading parts of it to accelerators. The performance of the different options will be discussed as well.
