Saturday Outing

The Saturday Outing is designed as a relaxed excursion combining nature, local exchange, and a short visit to PSI. It will take participants from Zurich to the Klingnauer Stausee, one of the best-known wetland and bird habitats in the region, before continuing to lunch and a short visit to the Paul Scherrer Institute.

The Klingnauer Stausee is a reservoir landscape on the Aare that is particularly well known for its rich birdlife and floodplain habitats. It is an important site for migratory and water birds and offers an attractive setting for a guided outdoor visit.

A central part of the excursion is the BirdLife Nature Centre, which serves as the main information and visitor center for the area. The center offers a modern exhibition and guided activities that introduce visitors to the history of the reservoir, the surrounding habitats, and the diversity of local flora and fauna.

Lunch is planned at Restaurant Oase, located near the Klingnauer Stausee in Kleindöttingen. This provides a convenient and pleasant stop between the nature visit and the afternoon return toward PSI.

The program concludes with a short visit to PSI, offering participants an opportunity to see the host institution and continue informal discussion before returning to Zurich.
