HTS for LHC, HL-LHC and Future Accelerators

WBGB/019
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has entered the Long Shutdown 3 (LS3), during which it will be upgraded for high-luminosity operation. The upgrade includes Nb₃Sn high-field quadrupole magnets and superconducting links based on MgB₂ and REBCO. These technologies will support the substantial increase in luminosity planned for the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), whose operation is scheduled to begin in 2030.
In parallel, studies of future circular and linear accelerators are exploring technologies for machines beyond the LHC. Following a review of the superconducting technologies developed for the HL-LHC, this presentation will discuss the role of high-temperature superconductors in future accelerators, with particular attention to their potential in both low-field and high-field magnets. Ongoing CERN magnet development and the challenges of achieving accelerator-quality performance will also be presented.
