CHART Workshop 2026
Park-Innovaare - Room CURIE 1
PSI, Villigen
The next collider at CERN is a Swiss national science priority. To support this goal, the Swiss government and academic institutions partnered with CERN to create CHART—an umbrella organization for Swiss research collaborations dedicated to accelerator science and technology for the Future Circular Collider (FCC).
CHART concentrates its work in four areas:
- Accelerator systems — the FCC-ee injector complex above all: electron and positron sources, linacs, capture and damping
- Magnets and superconductors — high-field magnets for a future hadron collider, high-performance Nb3Sn wires, and high-temperature superconducting magnets that make accelerators
more compact and sustainable - Beam dynamics — how beams behave in a collider: luminosity, stability, collective effects, polarization
- Geology and geodesy — the ground the FCC tunnel would pass through, and the reference frames needed to align a 91 km machine
About the workshop format:
In a future of accelerated development , increased complexity, and a risk of fragmentation, we want to try a new workshop format, aimed at improving inter-disciplinary understanding, systems-thinking, and CHART-wide networking:
After a morning of overview talks on the four focus areas of CHART, we invite every participant to attend a number of small break-out sessions with no more than 5-6 participants. Every willing participant presents in one session and attends a number of other sessions.
Each break-out session discusses the project of the presenter. Participants get to ask questions in this intimate setting until they feel to have learned something about a discipline that they would not otherwise have ventured into.
We will provide a web interface for you to indicate your preferred sessions at the end of the morning presentations, and let an algorithm find the best fit for the group. Your afternoon’s program will be distributed via eMail.
We hope that this format is a valuable learning experience in both ways, when we present and explain to colleagues from other fields, and when we listen and ask questions!
In the registration form, please indicate whether you agree to participate in the scheme by presenting your work, and the title of your session.
Many thanks in advance for your contributions!
