Performance and achievements of the Fermi Free-electron Laser

FERMI is a seeded free-electron laser based on the high-gain harmonic generation scheme and is constituted by two separate lines, FEL-1 and FEL-2. The former is a single stage cascaded FEL delivering light in the 65-20nm wavelength range, completely commissioned and open to Users. FEL-2 is a double stage cascaded FEL where the additional stage extends the frequency up-conversion and it has demonstrated to be able to efficiently cover the 20-4nm wavelength range.In this talk an overview of the successful achievements of the main project is provided, together with insight on the most appealing, novel configurations that have been recently studied and developed.
