SLAC xTCA Accelerator Control System

Europe/Zurich
Description
In 2011 SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory began looking for a new common platform for the LCLS-II project. At this time the European XFEL was developing a LLRF system in microTCA. SLAC collaborated with DESY to develop a new platform called MTCA.4. Several PICMIG specifications were generated from this collaboration. While DESY was building the European XFEL, SLAC entered several agreements with Pohang XFEL and ESS to design and commission BPM systems in microTCA. When SLAC switched to a superconducting linac for next generation X-ray FEL that will use a CW 4 GeV with bunch spacing of 1us, a new common hardware and firmware platform for beam instrumentation based on the ATCA platform was needed to achieve the required performance. The SLAC Technical Innovation Directorate has developed a stripline, button and cavity BPM system based on this platform that is capable of measuring the beam position at full beam rate. The talk will discuss both the microTCA implementations that exist at; Pohang, ESS, DESY and the new ATCA system for LCLS-II. Contact K. Ambrosch, 3373
