Description
In proton therapy, gantries are a key element to treat complex cancer cases successfully. In order to design their beam optics map tracking algorithms based on Lie Algebra are a common method besides classical particle tracking. Starting from the Hamiltonian formalism of each element in the beam line, multidimensional transfer maps are created. In the linear approximation those maps are represented by 6x6 matrices. This mathematical description not only simplifies tracking but allows also analysis of the optics. Furthermore, instead of tracking the particles element-by-element these maps can be combined to describe the whole beam line section by a single transfer map. In this presentation, I will introduce the Lie Algebra formalism together with Truncated Power Series Algebra and their implementation in the map based algorithm, OPAL-maps. In addition, the results using the new OPAL feature are shown w.r.t. the PSI Gantry 2 facility.
