Description

In this talk, the past, the present and the future of the PAL-XFEL project in Pohang (Korea) will be presented. The PAL-XFEL lased for the first time on 14 June 2016 with a radiation wavelength of 0.5 nm. On 27 November 2016, the machine generated X-ray pulses with 0.144 nm wavelength. The performance and features of the machine, including an unprecedented timing jitter of 20 fs, will be discussed. Besides the standard SASE operation, we are now ready to provide self-seeded light with a radiation wavelength of 0.15 nm. Moreover, in the near future we will construct one more undulator line at the hard X-ray undulator hall to generate isolated terawatt-attosecond X-ray pulses. The talk will also show the first studies on the application of artificial intelligence in the operation of PAL-XFEL.
