Weather permitting, visiting Plaine Morte will be one of the highlights of our IPICS conference.
The Plaine Morte Glacier (lit.: Dead Plain Glacier; French: glacier de la Plaine Morte) is a glacier located at an elevation of 2’750 m (9,020 ft) above sea level, in the canton of Bern and in the Valais above Crans-Montana. The ice field covers 7.88 km2 (3.04 sq mi), and is easily accessible from Crans-Montana by cable car.
Together with professional mountain guides, we will be going up to the Plaine Morte Glacier, learn more about the glacier and its surroundings and enjoy gorgeous views of the Rhone Valley, side valleys of the Valais and the Alps nicely lined up from Mischabel to Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.
