Description

This seminar will present the framework that allows analytical prediction of the impacts of the characteristics of the particle in the flow, the porous model and the geometry of the channel on drag reduction. The experimental analysis to validate the model and to understand the velocity profile at the interfacial region between the porous layer and the free flow using PIV and MRI techniques will be also introduced. Complicating mechanisms such as unavoidable sedimentation and particle–wall interactions near a surface induce small fluctuations in the boundary values of the particle volume fraction, which result in generating global modes. At the end of the talk, the instabilities of Poiseuille flow in a porous-suspension will be introduced. The insights gathered will lead to novel methods to manufacture the surfaces and control particles in the flow and near the wall.
