muX collaboration meeting:

We should start sheduling this year's collaboration meeting --> 2-3 hours; fully online

What to do next year?

Ra-226 in 3 forms (implanted, DoD, MP)

  • Where do we perform the implantation --> Most likely ISOLDE (starting from external Ra target) or PSI
  • Sputtering after decay?
  • Ideally ran offline at ISOLDE, but could be online as well when beam is used on an HRS experiment

 

New proposal:

New proposal to submit on January 9th on muonic X-rays for benchmarking laser spectroscopy --> Thomas and Michael will take the lead on writing

K, Al, Ag, Po, Ag, La, Lu, Tm, ... --> Many to do, perhaps make a smaller selection for the initial proposal

Also mention Al-26 and beyond standard model physics

 

 

Frederik:

DAQ update:

New DAQ PC (muX@muX-daq)

  • Same digitizer
  • Hickups during beamtime: Recompiling SIS1100; VME controller falure; HV logger crashes --> Should be looked into at some point
  • Analyzer for both online and offline
  • To be done in the development:
    • No tree output yet --> Partially from old DAQ (some part already in writing_to_trees branch on git)
    • Live histogram viewer (not urgent, but would be nice for the next beamtime)

Run DB

  • On google docs and SQLITE DB
  • In the future .json format instead of .db
  • Backup in mux-daq repo

 

Data backup

  • Hard disk in Leuven
  • PSI pc
  • Used to be MIDAS backup system at PSI
  • New Paradigm --> Geared towards fixed beam-line instruments (such as SLS), but MEG got it to work

Michael:

TRIDYN simulations in pyrolytic graphite:

K-39 at 30 keV, for systematic study run up to 5E17 cm^-2; maximum retained 2.5E17 at an implantation fluence of 3.5E17 --> If the simulations are reliable, 4-5 times more material possible!

Au-197 at 30 and 100 keV, for systematic study run up to 2-3 E17. Similar maxima compared to glassy carbon simulations --> If the simulations are reliable, 5 times more material possible!

Ra-226 at 30 keV, Self-sputter limits quite a bit beyond 5µg --> Maybe even implant in a smaller spot for better signal?

 

Systematic study:

Most likely buying larger pyrolytic graphite foil and cutting it into 5mmx5mm squares

Implant several samples at the same time to reduce required implantation time (beamspot typically 2" anyway)

Most likely via RADIATE proposal, Dresden?

 

Nilesh:

An attempt to decompose the background in the ROI for the Krypton 2s-1s analysis

  • The Michel electron cut, where you look for a Michel electron within a certain time window, can filter out the nuclear capture BG from the prompt energy spectrum.
  • To decompose the nuclear capture BG, a difference between the prompt spectrum and scaled (on the np-1s peaks) Michel electron cut was taken to find the resemblance of the resultant spectrum with the energy spectrum at later times.
  • Whichever time cut has the closest resemblance can be used to add to the scaled Michel electron cut. 
  • Care needs to be taken that the scaled Michel cut also scaled the 2s1s signal, so this needs to be smoothed out before doing the additions
