The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. Like ETH Zurich and EPFL, PSI belongs to the ETH Domain of the Swiss Confederation. PSI conducts basic and applied research in the fields of matter and materials, human health, and energy and the environment.
PSI develops, builds and operates large and complex research facilities and makes them available to the national and international scientific communities. It is the home of the Swiss free-electron laser SwissFEL and the Swiss Light Source synchrotron.
PSI is located in northern Switzerland, approximately 25 km north of Zürich and midway between Zürich and Basel. The nearest towns and railway stations are Baden and Brugg. Frequent air and train connections via Zürich or Basel are available from all major European and international cities.
Transportation:
Switzerland offers a dense network of reliable and safe public transportation. You can use the Swiss railway system app (SBB app) or website to find connections and book tickets across the whole transportation network (trains, buses, trams, etc).
If you consider travelling by car, note that you will need to pay CHF 7 parking fees per day at PSI!
Visa requirements:
Please ensure your passport is valid until well after you plan to end your trip. If your current passport is due to expire within this period, then you must renew your passport before your departure.
Check the information of the Swiss Federal Office for Migration to see if you require a visa to enter Switzerland. Registered participants should contact the Workshop Secretariat (uxss2025@psi.ch) in order to receive the inivitation letter needed for the visa application.
