Description
High-Resolution, Low-Temperature and Spin-Resolved ARPES
The URANOS (Ultra Resolved ANgular phOtoelectron Spectroscopy) beamline at the SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre is dedicated to investigating the electronic and spin properties of solid-state materials using angle and spin-resolved photoemission techniques (Spin-ARPES) at low-temperature capabilities.
The beamline provides a highly monochromatic photon beam with continuously tuneable energy (8–160 eV) and selectable polarization, including linear, circular, and elliptical modes. Its experimental endstation features a hemispherical DA30L electron energy analyser equipped with deflection optics, a six-axis cryogenic manipulator operating over a temperature range of 4–500 K, and two orthogonally arranged VLEED spin detectors enabling three-dimensional spin-polarization measurements. Extensive in situ sample preparation facilities, together with complementary techniques such as LEED and XPS, support comprehensive surface characterization.
This presentation will introduce the main experimental configurations and capabilities of the URANOS beamline, with particular emphasis on high-resolution, low-temperature, photon-polarization-dependent, and spin-resolved ARPES. Selected research examples will demonstrate how these complementary approaches can be used to investigate electronic band dispersions, surface states, and spin-dependent phenomena.
