Prof. Yasuhiro Masuda Masuda (Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies, KEK)13/10/2010, 16:40Searches for permanent electric dipole momentsOralWe have constructed a spallation UCN source of superfluid helium at RCNP. We obtained a world competitive UCN density at a proton beam power of 1 micro A and 390 MeV. By using this UCN source we will measure nEDM. We will discuss the present status of the UCN source and the preparation of EDM measurement. We will also discuss the future possibility at TRIUMF.Go to contribution page

Hartmut Abele (Atominstitut)13/10/2010, 17:00Fundamental physics with cold and ultracold neutronsOralThis talk is about a test of gravitation at small distances by quantum interference deep into the theoretically interesting regime of 10000 times gravity. The method allows a precise measurement of quantum mechanical phase shifts of a Schrödinger wave packet bouncing off a hard surface in the gravitational field of the earth. The experiment is sensitive to gravity-like forces at a length scale...Go to contribution page

Dr Frederik Wauters (IKS - Kaholieke Universiteit Leuven)13/10/2010, 17:20Low energy precision tests of the Standard ModelOralCorrelation measurements in nuclear and neutron beta-decay are a powerful tool to probe the structure of the weak [Sev2006]. While neutron decay experiments mainly focus on the determination of the V_ud matrix element[Abe2008], correlation experiments in nuclear beta-decay concentrate on exotic weak interaction types [Beh2009][Sev2006]. The main advantage of nuclear beta-decays is the wide...Go to contribution page

Martin Breitenfeldt (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven)13/10/2010, 17:40Low energy precision tests of the Standard ModelOralThe WITCH set-up (Weak Interaction Trap for CHarged particles) that was installed at ISOLDE/CERN combines a double Penning trap system to store radioactive ions and a retardation spectrometer to probe the energy of the daughter recoil ions. The primary aim is to search for scalar and/or tensor interactions in nuclear beta decay by precisely determining the beta-neutrino angular correlation...Go to contribution page

Dr Xavier Flechard (LPC Caen, ENSICAEN, Université de Caen, CNRS/IN2P3, Caen, France)13/10/2010, 18:00Low energy precision tests of the Standard ModelOralWithin the frame of the Standard Model, the weak interaction is mediated by the W+, W-, and Z0 bosons, which can only involve vector and axial vector interactions. The precise measurement of the beta-neutrino angular correlation, $a_{\beta\nu}$, in nuclear beta decay is a direct and sensitive tool to search for other Lorentz invariant contributions, such as Tensor and Scalar couplings....Go to contribution page
