The series of the International Workshop on Spallation Materials Technology (IWSMT) has been the premier forum for exchanging the latest information on spallation source related materials studies, discussing open questions encountered in operation and development of high power spallation targets, and establishing new international collaborations on relevant materials research topics since mid-90s. The twelfth meeting will be again focused on the progress achieved in this field, with an emphasis on: (a) the results obtained from the post-irradiation examination (PIE) programs of the MEGAPIE, JSNS, SNS and SINQ targets, (b) the progress in materials R&D programs of ESS, MYRRHA and C-ADS projects, and (c) the progress in the fundamental understanding of the synergistic effect of displacement damage, helium, hydrogen and transmutation elements in various structural and target materials.
Furthermore, IWSMT-12 will be followed by a Technical Review Meeting of the MEGAPIE project held at the same venue on October 23-24, in which the knowledge, experiences and lessons obtained from the MEGAPIE project will be overviewed and results of the PIE on the MEGAPIE target will be presented and discussed in detail.
