Description
An overview of the CLIC Test Facility (CTF3) laser system dedicated to drive CLIC “main” beam photo-injector prototype (CALIFES) and possible CLIC “drive” beam photo-injector prototype (PHIN) will be given. Current status of the laser system as well as future upgrade plans in order to bring the output laser beam parameters (repetition rate, burst duration, UV pulse energy, stability etc.) closer to the CLIC requirements will be discussed. A photo-cathode development and testing program is carried on by our group at CERN, some preliminary results will be presented concerning the RF-driven normal conducting photo-gun. An overview of the rapidly developing Advanced Wakefield Experiment (AWAKE, awake.web.cern.ch ) will be presented on behalf of AWAKE Collaboration. The AWAKE project has been started as an approach to accelerate an electron beam to the TeV energy regime in a single plasma section by the plasma wake filed driven by the energetic proton bunch. To verify this novel technique, a proof-of-principle demonstration experiment was proposed by an AWAKE Collaboration, using 400 GeV proton beams from the Super Proton Synchrotron at CERN. A peculiarity of the 4 TW Ti:Sa laser system dedicated to ionize 10 meter long Rb vapor cell served a plasma source as well as to drive an AWAKE photo-injector will be described.
