Two versions of the Orbit Tool are now available. From operation point of view the following points are relevant:
auto-restart of OT after beam interruption
handle correctly missing or unresponsive BPMs
clearly show if it is enabled and running
be able to see what is included and what it is actually doing
re-calculate RM from the model after a change in optics
DV will set-up a meeting to discuss the technical aspects with FL and MA
The BPM offset channels are not ideal; they mix two functions: hardware/electronic offsets and definition of a golden orbit. A possible implementation would be to define a target value (X1-TARGET) independent of the offset (X1-OFFS) and calculate a position error (X1 - X1-TARGET) to be displayed on the BPM panel.
BS energy channel for feedbacks. NH will first initiate a discussion with the relevant experts (MA, SR, FL) to agree on a meaningful strategy. It makes no sense to start an implementation before agreeing on specifications.
There is a general need for a good display showing at the same time orbit, magnet settings and optics functions. Different tool exist already (optics tool, BPM display, orbit tool). Could they be put together in a single GUI? NH will collect inputs and ideas. We should then make a specification for a HLA (CK?)
