Afternoon sections

In the afternoons there will be several activities running in parallel. All students should take part in a diffraction experiment of the phase transition of water turning into ice. This will take place in the SLS Optics beamline . Not all students fit in the beamline so there will be a rotation among all students. The experiment description can be downloaded from here

The students who are not at the Optics beamline on that day will take part in extended visits of different beamlines. The extended visit means that the students will be introduced about the technique of that beamline and will be able to join a running experiment for a few hours. The experiments are not necessarily designed for the students in this case, they will mostly be an "actual" commissioning or scientific measurement performed by the staff scientists. The beamlines are labeled by their names. Clicking on the beamline name you will be redirected to the actual beamline webpage. Not all students will visit the same beamlines.

All experiments will happen at the SLS since both the neutron and muon sources are on shutdown. On Tuesday, there will be a visit to the muon and neutron facilities. In the neutron facility only one beamline is accessible since the whole neutron facility is going through an upgrade.
