We present a self-consistent model for the simulation of the Schottky effect and compare simulations with measurements performed at the SwissFEL injector test facility. Simulations of gun-solenoid scans are also compared to injector measurements and to corresponding ASTRA-based simulations. Residual quadrupol and earth magnetic fields are taken into account and limits in terms of tolerable emittance growth are derived.
