Analysis discussion meeting

Europe/Zurich

Thomas (via Michael):

Po laser spectroscopy (Neutron rich side) beamtime is ongoing. First results are promising, but the fast release of Fr is overwhelming for now. There is a need for muX on Po for benchmarking in the future.

Michael:

Neutron analysis

Made a discirimination based on a linear-constant-linear piecewise defined line -> For now, parameters are chosen visualy

Weird behavior in PSD plots for high energy (overflow) in one of the detectors. Maybe this has to do with the difference between pile-up and actual overflows. If pile-up happens without going to overflow, the tail fraction is increased. Check for different runs (for detector differences) and look at waveform differences --> Michael will follow up on this

Made an algorithm to reconstruct the overflow clock ticks based on two points before and one point after the overflow. Slight improvement, but nothing major coming out of it. Maybe the fast leading edge is not ideal for a quadratic function, use one point before and two after intead. -> Michael will follow up on this

Got energy spectra of photons and neutrons. Calibration based on Compton edges (so far inconclusive). Issues with assigning the edges?

Tridyn simulations: Discrepancy found with T. Kieck's simulations, likely due to insufficiently thick layer considered in his simulation. Fundamental limit for K-39 at 40 keV shifts from 8 to 33 A^-2. ~20µg implanted around 100 nm seems reasonable.

Nilesh:

Working on the efficiency using the ratio between X-ray counts. Relative intensities still a bit unclear -> Nilesh will use the µ-Dirac code to obtain them.

X-ray vs X-ray coincidences have quite a bit of background, both random coincidences and real coincidences with Compton events.

Random background -> Sample outside coincidence window and subtract within window

Compton background -> Get a coincidence energy spectrum; fit with linear background and obtain ratio of full peak to Compton events.

4d-3p and 4f-3d peaks are overlapping -> Try rebinning for deconvolution

Katharina:

Using the µ-Dirac code for some calculations and estimations

Calculated the finite size correction to have an estimate for the precision at a certain resolution.

Reading up on the Li µX background. There seem to be a lot of calculations, but not that many experimental results.

Andreas:

Designed a smaller entrance detector for a better placement of the germanium detectors -> Sent to the workshop

Investigating the possibilities for a Li-target. Alkaline, thus it reacts a lot.

Oxides would only capture ~10% of the muons on the Li. Alternative is LiH, but this is very reactive...

There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
