Description
Silicon trackers are included to every major HEP experiment since the LEP era in the early 1990s. In the meanwhile several hundred square meters of silicon detectors have been commissioned.
The requirements to these devices in terms of costs, radiation hardness and rate capability became more and more demanding.
This talk gives an overview on the sensors used in past and present HEP experiments, discusses their limitations and gives some perspective for possible future developments.
