Description

A high repetition rate, pulsed, single pass FEL presents many interesting control system challenges. The motivation for stability, tune-ability, reproducibility along with reliability and protection systems are considered in terms of control system architecture choices.

These have an impact on low-level control system drivers all the way through to high-level application software. Examples are taken from the commissioning and operation of the LCLS facility at SLAC. The performance of LCLS is discussed along with the lessons learned and how they may be applied to LCLS Phase Two, that s now under consideration.
