About PSI

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. Like ETH Zurich and EPFL, PSI belongs to the ETH Domain of the Swiss Confederation. PSI conducts basic and applied research in the fields of matter and materials, human health, and energy and the environment.

PSI develops, builds and operates large and complex research facilities and makes them available to the national and international scientific communities. It is the home of the Swiss free-electron laser SwissFEL and the Swiss Light Source synchrotron.

PSI is located in northern Switzerland, approximately 25 km north of Zürich and midway between Zürich and Basel. The nearest towns and railway stations are Baden and Brugg. Frequent air and train connections via Zürich or Basel are available from all major European and international cities.
