Description
The infrared free-electron laser (IR-FEL) at the Fritz Haber Institute recently commissioned a two-color upgrade, enabling simultaneous lasing with two IR FEL oscillators with independently tunable wavelength. This is realized by employing a high-frequency (500 MHz) kicker cavity to feeding alternating electron bunches from within the 1 GHz bunch train into the two separate IR FEL oscillators. Within this scheme, a high intrinsic temporal synchronization between both FEL outputs is expected1.
In our contribution, we present two-color time-resolved FEL-FEL cross correlation results proving this synchronization. We also confirm that the cross-correlation between both FELs broadens with increasing cavity detuning, in accordance with earlier studies*2. By leveraging the independently tunable pulse durations in each FEL, we further explore the achievable time-resolution that can be expected when the two-color, dual oscillator FEL is employed for future IR-IR pump-probe experiments.
