Description

A Scienta EW4000-6kV hemispherical analyzer has been commissioned at the SQS instrument of the European XFEL. Conceived as a high-resolution electron spectrometer for gas phase studies, TRESOR was installed and first used at euXFEL in spring 2026. With a delay line anode on the detector, the spectrometer can take advantage of the high repetition rate available at euXFEL to overcome problems with space charge that generally limit the utility of this type of analyzer at XFELs while still collecting pulse-by-pulse data for subsequent sorting. In the first runs with the instrument we demonstrated <100 meV resolution on rare gas valence lines and vibrational resolution of inner-shell electron spectra of small molecules CO, N2, CH3F. We further showed that the analyzer can be used with the full SASE beam with pulse energies up to several mJ to give high resolution spectra of multiphoton process such as double core hole creation and decay. First results will be presented showing the suitability of TRESOR for high-resolution electron spectroscopy studies at euXFEL.
