Description
ARIA will be the second free-electron laser beamline of the plasma-based accelerator facility EUPRAXIA@SPARC_LAB, hosted at Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati. Designed as a seeded FEL operating in the ultraviolet spectral range, ARIA will complement FERMI, providing radiation in the range 50-180nm.
Leveraging the capability of EUPRAXIA@SPARC_LAB to generate ultrashort electron bunches, we investigate the production of short, multicolor FEL pulses and the possibility of controlling their relative temporal delay. Different schemes are explored, including the use of dedicated undulator configurations as well as external optical delay lines. These approaches enable the generation of pulse pairs with different photon energy, polarization and delay, offering a versatile tool for time-resolved studies.
Based on both the simulation results presented here and the experience accumulated at FERMI, we expect these advanced multicolor and variable-delay operating modes to become a highly valuable and attractive feature for the user community.
