The FERMI FEL, as an externally seeded facility, provides extraordinary temporal coherence, pulse-to-pulse stability, and spectral purity, overcoming the stochastic limitations inherent in self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE). However, its maximum photon energy is primarily limited by the achievable harmonic multiplication before energy spread and microbunching degradation disrupt the...

ARIA will be the second free-electron laser beamline of the plasma-based accelerator facility EUPRAXIA@SPARC_LAB, hosted at Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati. Designed as a seeded FEL operating in the ultraviolet spectral range, ARIA will complement FERMI, providing radiation in the range 50-180nm.

Leveraging the capability of EUPRAXIA@SPARC_LAB to generate ultrashort electron...

The degradation and Carbon contamination of X-ray optics is a well-known problem in X-ray beamlines with harmful effects on beamline performance. This is particularly problematic, as such optics are usually highly specialized and coated with various materials. Consequences of such contamination include the distortion of the wavefront, reduction in focusing power and resolution, and loss of...
