Description

In the papers [1,2] Heuristic Rating Estimation (HRE) method in decision making has been introduced. It is useful when the priorities of some referential alternatives are initially known. It might be the case of introducing new products to the market, or adding new players to the ranking list. However, as it was pointed in [3] in the case of the arithmetic HRE, for some specific data, the procedure may not work.

We study the level of the Saaty consistency index of pairwise comparisons matrices (PCMs) sufficient to proceed with HRE. We consider both the arithmetic and the geometric versions of HRE for complete and incomplete PCMs. We also show that the obtained tresholds of inconsistency are optimal.

This research was funded by the IDUB AGH initiative – Inicjatywa Doskonałości – Uczelnia Badawcza programme at the AGH University of Krakow.
