Excursion (Saturday afternoon, 12 May 2012)

We will organize a half-day excursion to Lucerne. Lucerne is traditionally considered first and foremost as a tourist destination. It owes its fame to its uniquely picturesque location. Nestled among the foothills of the Alps, the city lies at the end of a lake that has been eternalised by poets and composers. An incredible panorama begins here which stretches from Mount Rigi to Mount Pilatus and, depending on the weather, season or time of day, sets dramatically different moods.

On a guided walking tour, we will explore the city with its interesting sights and historical highlights. Discovering Lucerne on foot is much more than “just” a tour. Along with the Spreuer Bridge and the Musegg Wall with its nine towers, they used to form part of the city’s ancient fortifications. Our two-hour tour takes in a host of other attractions including the cutting edge KKL Luzern, culture and convention centre, and the Old Town’s squares and historic façades. Saunter with your expert guide through the Old Town’s narrow lanes while you learn interesting, humorous and true facts about Lucerne’s history, churches, bridges, balconies, alleys, towers and squares.

After the tour, you will have free time to do some shopping, continue with the discovery of the city, or to rest at one of the numerous sidewalk cafés and simply enjoy the views of Lucerne.

We will finish our excursion with a dinner at the Hotel Flora Lucerne.

The event is included in the registration fee, and transportation by bus will be provided. The bus will leave directly from PSI after the last session (lunch packages will be handed out on the bus). On return from Lucerne, the bus will be making drop-off stops at Brugg train station, PSI West, and Schloss Böttstein.

If you plan to attend the excursion, please make sure to reserve your hotel room until Sunday due to the late return.
