Description

Through training visits between partners, Master’s students, PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and young engineers can visit one of the 14 institutions involved in the APAL’s consortium. Thus, the trainees can acquire cutting-edge knowledge on performing the assessments of integrity of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) under pressurized thermal shock (PTS) with the aim to ensure the long-term operation (LTO) of RPV. This document will help the hosting organizations to accomplish various tasks associated with the training activities, e.g. equipping the training place, organising the talks, and creating training plans. It defines the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved in the training process.

Overview

The assessments of integrity of reactor pressure vessels (RPV) under pressurized thermal shock (PTS) involve different disciplines. The analysis is done in a sequential manner starting with the thermal hydraulic analysis then introducing the fracture mechanics analysis and finally the probabilistic fracture mechanics. These three disciplines correspond to the main core of the integrity assessment. Moreover, some other disciplines are needed for the complete assessment. These include material ageing, integrity analysis, and probability theory, among others. Each discipline may contain several sub-disciplines, which are needed to perform the integrity assessment.  The program offers you different modulus within these learning disciplines, in such a way that you can reinforce specific abilities. The learning pathway should be selected in a way that the trainee build knowledge progressively and from beginner to advanced user. If a user has already certain knowledge or experience, the learning path might be adjust to the training to the user’s needs.


Training application process

The main objective of the training program is to transfer cutting-edge knowledge on performing the assessments of integrity of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) under pressurized thermal shock (PTS) with the aim to ensure the long-term operation (LTO) of RPV.
