ICRP 2024, Interlaken, Switzerland 17-21 Nov 2024

Dear colleagues,

We would like to cordially invite you to attend the 20th International Conference on Retinal Proteins (ICRP2024) in Interlaken, Switzerland, from November 17 to 21, 2024.

Light-sensitive retinal-binding proteins are found in all domains of life, from Archaea to Eukaryota. They are diverse and versatile, as they can function as photoreceptors in animals (mediating visual and non-visual functions), and as light-activated ion pumps, channels, sensors, and enzymes in microorganisms.

The ICRP was established in 1984 as the only international conference to comprehensively address retinal-binding proteins. Since then, the conference has been held every two years at different venues around the world. Its main objective is to provide a forum to share the latest research on retinal proteins, including structural, spectroscopic, genetic, biochemical and physiological studies, and optogenetics (the control of neuron activity and animal behavior using light).

In the heart of Switzerland, beautifully situated between mountains and lakes, Interlaken is renowned for its impressive scenery. Being presided over by the three mighty mountains, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, Interlaken is an ideal starting point for  a wide variety of excursions. Over 45 mountain railways, cable cars, chair lifts and ski lifts lead to 200 kilometers of pistes and a dense network of hiking trails.

We hope to see you soon in Interlaken. With our best regards,

Gebhard Schertler (PSI), Massimo Olivucci (University of Siena)
