Description
Developing Low Level Radio Frequency (LLRF) systems for accelerators requires teams with skills in a variety of areas such as beam dynamics, feedback theory, analogue/digital electronics, firmware/software engineering. This fascinating field suffers from a lack of diversity, mirroring the situation in the various accelerator facilities and research centers. For example, the number of women attending the LLRF workshop is low, possibly because of the team composition in each participating laboratory.
Over recent years CERN, PSI and FHNW have started programs to improve diversity in the workplace and in particular in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The session will start showing statistics for past and present attendance to the LLRF workshop. Then the existing Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) programs at CERN, PSI and FHNW will be outlined. A discussion on how to improve the situation in STEM and within our LLRF field will follow. All participants to the LLRF workshop and their accompanying persons are invited to take part in this event.
