CERN Lab Tours

There will be two lab tours at CERN offered, one before and one after the workshop.
The meeting point for the tours at CERN will be on the Swiss side of CERN and transport by bus to the different locations will be available. Travel to and from CERN must be privately organised. Luggage can be kept in the bus during the tour. Travel documents (passport and visa if required) to cross the border between Switzerland and France must be carried on person during the tour. A badge will be provided for the day of the tour to enter the CERN site.

At the time of registration please select the tour you would like to participate in:

Friday,     7.10.2022:    12:30 - 17:30 [status as of 2022-09-09: 21 places available, contact the organizers if you want to join]

Friday,   14.10.2022:      8:00 - 13:00  [status as of 2022-09-09: sold out]

The time indicated includes the time needed to obtain your badge. The badge can also be self-printed ahead of the visit and is valid for the entire day of the visit. You can freely move around on the CERN site before and after the visit. Should you plan to have additional meetings before or after the official tour, this is possible on the same day using the same badge entering with your contact person the CERN site.

We will visit the following power RF and LLRF systems:

  • LINAC4 Hall with RF power and LLRF installations
  • AD Hall with low energy anti-proton decelerator complex
  • SM18 Test Stands for superconducting RF cavities
  • SPS high power solid state amplifier plant and LLRF (200 MHz and 800 MHz)

Travelling to CERN

Geneva airport (GVA) offers flights to and from transportation hubs in Europe, major cities in Europe, and has direct connections to the East Coast of North America (JFK, EWR, IAD, YUL). A number of direct flights give you access to connect to hubs (IST, AUH, DBX) that are convenient to travel to Asia.

Zurich airport (ZRH) is connected to Geneva (GVA) by frequent flights (1 hour) in addition to the possibility of ground transportation by train (3 hours).

Detailed information is provided by mail to after booking the tour at the time of registration to the workshop.

Hotels in the area

A list of hotels in the area is available here.

Public transportation from locations in Geneva, Meyrin or Cointrin is efficient and often a bus pass is included in the price of the hotel.

Notice that the main CERN entrance is in Switzerland, while some of the suggested hotels are located in France.

Some hotels on the French side offer a shuttle service to CERN with 24 hours notice.

CERN Hostel

Please contact housing.service@cern.ch directly should you wish to stay at the CERN hostel.

Your booking will be treated according to the hostel availability. Payments are to be made directly with the hostel. As name of guarantor, you can indicate Eleanor Sylvaine DAVIES (eleanor.sylvaine.davies@cern.ch).

Do not forget to inform them should you change your travel plans. Please check the CERN Hotel terms and conditions of reservation (especially the "no-show" case").
